Windows 11 Photos app opens with a blank screen

When trying to open an image from an email or one saved on your PC, the Photos app opens with a blank screen. There are a few different steps that can be used to resolve this.

 Instructions

  1. First locate the app, right click and select ‘App Settings’

  2. Scroll down to the ‘Reset’ section and start by selecting the ‘Repair’ button. Then try the app again.

  3. If that did not work, go back into the app settings and try the ‘Reset’ option under the same section. Then try the app again.

  4. If neither one of the steps above worked, open Powershell as an administrator and use the following command: get-appxpackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos | remote-appxpackage

  5. Then open the Photo’s app. If it is not installed, open the Microsoft Store, search for the app and install it.

Highlight important information in a panel like this one. To edit this panel's color or style, select one of the options in the menu.
